Tasting Room Captain

Under the supervision of the Tasting Room Manager, the Tasting Room Captain is responsible for efficiently and effectively promoting the sale of wine and ensuring an exceptional brand experience for consumers through the highest level of product knowledge, hospitality and customer service. All efforts are focused on attaining monthly sales goals while providing gracious hospitality to both consumers and trade. Full time or part-time position available. Must be available to work weekends and holidays. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations in the tasting room including opening & closing, inventory, ordering, etc.
  • Act as lead server and or/host on the floor, greeting guests and supervising staff.
  • Deliver a high level of hospitality ensuring that every guest enjoys their experience, leaving with a high impression of our wines, staff, and hospitality.
  • Accurately describes wines, winemaking techniques, appellations, unique aspects of wine, and winery history.
  • Develops and maintains strategic relationships with discerning clientele and Wine Club members.
  • Assist Tasting Room Manager in recruitment, training and scheduling of staff.
  • Assist Tasting Room Manager in managing reservation system and guest communication.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, professional and friendly tasting room environment by leading through example.
  • Work with Wine Club Manager to achieve club growth goals and execute club events/programming & on-site events.
  • Manage wine & food inventory and ordering for the tasting room.
  • Serve as back-up for Tasting Room Manager when he/she is absent.
  • Assist with maintenance and cleanliness of the tasting room.
  • Effectively resolves customer/staff conflict directly, or by knowing how and when to refer customers to the Tasting Room Manager or higher level tasting room management.
  • Accurately handle routine purchasing transactions, which include operating cash register and accounting of daily sales; processes returns, discounts, etc.
  • Provide general tourist information and, in some cases, more concierge type service, calling restaurants for reservations, assisting with appointments at other wineries, etc.
  • Represent winery at outside functions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Show commitment to excellence and high standards of work ethic and hospitality.
  • Wine knowledge and experience is a must. The Tasting House Captain must be able to accurately discuss our wines, the winemaking process, our region, and act as a resource for guests and staff.
  • 2+ years Tasting Room or Hospitality experience.
  • Consistently demonstrates outstanding customer service skills, poise and tact.
  • Is flexible, can manage constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Fluent in English
  • Demonstrates ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
  • Computer proficiency and data entry experience, basic knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to stand and walk for, up to 7 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds (weight of a case of wine) repeatedly.
  • Must be able to effectively stock wine and non-wine merchandise, set-up and break down structures, tables, etc., and be able to utilize dolly cart and other equipment to assist in moving heavy objects.

Tasting Room Associate (Part-Time)

Under the Supervision on the Tasting House Manager and Captain, Tasting Room Associates are responsible for providing hospitality and service to our guests. Associates are responsible for providing the best possible experience to all guests, sharing wine knowledge, developing relationships with guests and Club members, and ensuring an enjoyable tasting experience.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
  • Maintain a friendly, welcoming demeanor with guests, while providing the utmost level of hopsitality and service.
  • Knowledgable about our wines, winery, story, region, and winemaking practice and be able to discuss these topics with guests and answer questions as needed.
  • Conduct wine tasting, prepare food, provide bottle service, and transactions.
  • Encourage Wine Club signups and bottle sales.
  • Maintain winery image to reinforce standards of the brand
  • Conduct opening and closing procedures, which includes but is not limited to: stocking wine & supplies, cleaning, setup and breakdown, and all tasks related to Tasting Room
  • Occasional VIP or off-site tastings
