Dear Guest, Thank you for being such an incredible supporter of Suhru Wines, we are thrilled to share some very exciting news—Suhru Wines is growing! Over the past 15 years, Suhru has been dedicated to sourcing excellent fruit from the regions in New York where each variety grows best. We have focused on making food friendly, approachable wines from the varieties we love (and we don’t plan to stop). As you know, we have always focused on crisp, bright, dry and aromatic tank fermented white wines and fruit forward, medium-bodied, soft tannin reds (don’t worry, that won’t be changing). As the business has grown—in no small part thanks to YOU—we have been looking for opportunities to expand and farm a vineyard of our own. We are pleased to share that we have purchased the Lieb Cellars brand, tasting room, and the 54-acre sustainably farmed vineyard located on Oregon Road in Cutchogue, NY. But wait, there’s more! In addition to the new acreage and the exciting addition of Lieb Cellars, we are pleased to share a new ownership team. Don’t worry, we are keeping the SU and RU in Suhru with both Suhru Wines founder Susan Hearn and her husband and longtime winemaker—15+ years with Suhru and 30+ years with Lieb Cellars—Russell Hearn at the helm. In addition to those two, a few familiar faces are now owners—long time Suhru Wines General Manager Shelby Hearn Ulrich and her husband and our Assistant Winemaker Brad Ulrich. Plus we have two exciting newcomers! We are beyond thrilled to have Renée & John Fondacaro joining the Suhru (and now Lieb Cellars) family. Renée & John are native Long Islanders, successful entrepreneurs and long time wine lovers, with a vast knowledge of winemaking, viticulture and hospitality. With this new team in place, we are looking forward to taking the next step forward for the business with the continued growth of both Suhru and Lieb Cellars. The goal, to accentuate the best of both brands while introducing a few new ideas along the way—stay tuned for more on that to come in 2024. Russell recently said it best, “Partnership to me is always stimulating. It brings differing views to the table to hopefully drive the best direction forward. This unification of Suhru and Lieb is a blending of two family owned brands as well as the blending of two families, the Fondacaros and our own. The future is clearly defined. Our ultimate goal is to lean on our varied skill sets and experience, both from within and outside the wine industry, to make both Suhru and Lieb better and better for our current and future guests.” The Lieb Cellars Tasting Room, located at 13050 Oregon Road in Cutchogue, will continue to feature a selection of Lieb Cellars and Bridge Lane wines as it does currently through the end of 2023, with Suhru Wines introduced to the Oregon Road Tasting Room in January 2024. Bridge Lane will continue on as it's own brand and was not a part of the sale. The Suhru Wines Tasting House, located at 28735 Main Road in Cutchogue, will continue in operation through September 2024 moving to one consolidated tasting room on Oregon Road Fall of 2024. Sincerely, Susan, Russell, Shelby, Brad, Renée & John Still want to know more? Checkout the Press Release, Meet the New Team, and Explore our FAQs!
